My Skincare Journey Through the Pandemic: Dr. Jart+ Edition

Hello!

This is Chiko, a beauty freak, with her beauty talk. I live a beauty-filled life, stacking up small, easy beauty routines every day.

Irregular Skin Conditions in 2020

Mask-wearing, air-conditioned isolation, and record-breaking drought days.
2020 was full of irregularities. I'm sure many of you found that your usual skincare routine couldn't stop your skin from breaking out.

I have dry skin, but I'd never had "skin problems" before. This year, however, I was plagued by persistent red spots, especially around my mouth.

Popular Korean Cosmetics Available Online

What to do about my persistent skin problems... I researched and discovered Korean cosmetics. My first encounter was with LANEIGE's 'Cica Sleeping Mask'. When I tried a sample, I was surprised to see the redness subside quickly.

One reason was that Albion, which I had been using for years, couldn't be bought online. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, "online shopping" was a must-have.

Dr.Jart+'s 'Cicapair' Series

Enchanted by Korean cosmetics, I decided to try Dr.Jart+'s series, which has an impeccable reputation. I started by getting these:

From left: 'Toner', 'Serum', 'Cream'.
For the toner, it's also recommended to dilute it and rinse your face thoroughly at the end of your cleansing routine. The feeling of rapid hydration is simply irresistible.

I was also drawn to the minimalist packaging and design.

The cream is also green. It blends smoothly into the skin. For my extremely dry skin, these three products didn't feel moisturizing enough. I felt like my skin was being hydrated, so I decided to re-evaluate the "sealing" cream.

Dr.Jart+'s 'Ceramidin' Series

In Korea, Ceramidin cream is rated even higher than Cica cream. Since the whole series costs around 7,000 yen, I ended up trying the toner and emulsion as a set.

This is a block of ceramide. The entire series has a "ceramide color". For those with dry skin, it feels like it firmly protects the skin, making you feel secure. During the calming phase, I used the 'Cicapair' series toner and emulsion, layered with 'Ceramidin Cream'.
Therefore, I have already used up two tubes of 'Ceramidin Cream'.

However, I also found that while I felt the wrapping effect of the toner and emulsion, the sensation of them being absorbed deeply into my skin was faint.

Dr. Jart+'s 'Vital Hydra Solution' Series

So, I tried the 'Vital Hydra Solution' series, which is excellent for skin hydration.

The feeling of use is exactly as depicted in the package design! It penetrates the skin like water. It feels like you want to use it lavishly, as if washing your face.

Even the cream had a texture that melted and quickly turned into moisture, so it was still a bit concerning for dry skin.

Dr.Jart+ Recipe for Dry Skin

Here's the dry skin recipe I've come up with:

Toner 1: Vital Hydra Solution

Hydrate your skin thoroughly! I apply it generously. I decided to use it as a booster to hydrate my skin.

Toner 2: Ceramidin

I enhance hydration with the thick, herbaceous Ceramidin toner.

Serum: Ceramidin or Cicapair

I alternate between them depending on my skin condition. I really like the packaging of the Cicapair serum; when you open the lid, it has a dropper. That's also a preference of mine.

Cream: Ceramidin, sometimes Cicapair

For its "sealing" function, 'Ceramidin' is definitely recommended. However, for areas where my skin is irritated and red, I apply Cicapair like a medicine. This is the strongest. After a thorough skincare routine, if I apply Cicapair cream and sleep, the redness is gone by the next morning. It's that effective.

Korean Cosmetics Worth Trying

Every time I buy them, I get plenty of samples. Korean cosmetics are full of enjoyment, with impeccable design and quality. But whether they suit my skin and whether I'll continue to use them, I can't ask a beauty advisor, so trial and error is necessary.

The one product I've bought in bulk this time that I'll definitely continue to use is 'Cicapair Cream'. The sense of security that I can just apply it to specific areas when my skin is irritated is immense.

But maybe Albion is still right for my skin. I'll tell you about my visit to Albion in Ginza another time.

October is almost here. As the dry season deepens, I'll be focusing on skincare in my Instagram Live and YouTube broadcasts as a skincare month!
